The Vocabulary of the Kingdom

.
“God does speak -- now one way; now another – though man may not perceive it.” (Job 33:14).

I have preached hundreds of sermons to thousands of people in many nations over the past several years. The one topic that always generates the greatest interest and meets the deepest need is the subject of “Hearing the Voice of God.” And it's clear to me why this is the case; for everything else depends upon this one thing. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

Surprisingly, however, there are those within the Christian family who think it presumptuous, naïve, unsound, blasphemous, heretical, or insane to believe that someone can converse with God. (I am all these things to some people out there – bless their hearts!)

Nevertheless I am unshakably resolved to move forward in life with this uncompromising message: YOU can personally experience God’s presence, learn to recognize His voice when He speaks to you, and find the power to be and to do whatever He is calling you to become.

Let me say up front that there are two mistakes we must avoid in this matter of “Hearing God's Voice.” One, going too far; and, two, not going far enough.

Some imagine that everything that happens somehow contains an embedded word from the Lord, and they strain themselves beyond the bounds of credibility in interpreting and publishing their messages. Others, on the other hand, dismiss the notion altogether and miss out on truly extraordinary encounters with the Lord in otherwise ordinary moments.

“God DOES speak; now one way, now another; though man may not perceive it.” Notice, it does not say that man CANNOT perceive it; rather, he may MAY NOT perceive it. This leaves open the equal possibility that man indeed MAY perceive the voice of the Lord.

In the following devotional posts we will focus on what I call the Vocabulary of the Kingdom -- the variety of ways the Lord speaks to us every day, and show you what it takes to learn to tune in to those wondrous moments when He gives you a leading….and you obey.

Stay tuned – this is going to be life-changing!
